You brace yourself for a second attempt at climbing. The pain in your arms is not remotely gone but it isn’t going to help to wait until it leaves. You raise your hands up and grab hold of the rope once again. This time you don’t stop after one hoist. You place a hand on top of the other and pull again. It is pain you have never known, but now it is real and it isn’t lightening up on you. You climb once more, but this time you are almost shaken right off the rope as something above you gives and now you truly feel it; this rope is going to fall, with or without me pulling it down. You look down and see a drop so far, you can only imagine where it ends. You look up and see hope: a faint light is just over the peak of the cliff. Nearly ten more good pulls up could take you there. But your body is screaming of exhaustion and the rope has no intention of staying attached to whatever is over that cliff. Could you make it in one last painful attempt to climb up, before either your shoulders or the rope gives?
