Twenty One Pilots
Qori Pace
In this article, we will be attempting to recruit more fans of this under appreciated, underrated band called Twenty One Pilots. Twenty One Pilots consists of Tyler Joseph and Josh... I forgot his last name. (It's Dun, Qori. Josh Dun) Thanks.
They are an indie band, and make amazing music which mostly consists of mixtures of rock, pop, and rap. Or as I like to call it, Rop-Rap. They have messed around with more mainstream bands, such as Panic! At The Disco and Fall Out Boy, my other favorite bands. Most of Twenty One Pilots' songs are known to be different from most current artists, as their music has a deeper meaning, and isn't just, she broke my heart, now I'm going to make money off of it. In some albums, there is a theme. In their most current album, it is black paint on the neck and hands, representing the stress taking over, and consuming your body. This is connected to most likely one of their most known songs- Stressed Out. In Vessel, it was kind of covering your face with like, a mask or something, to represent, well I'm not really sure, but it sure is cool. They created a new sub-genre of music that I feel needs more recognition.
Both Tyler and Josh dealt with severe depression in their lives and that seems to be a big theme in their music. And while some of them are very sad and depressing (*cough cough* Goner *cough cough*) some of their songs handle the matter in a such a light and optimistic way, it's just so much fun to listen to. Like Not Today, for example. It is ultimately about depression, but it decides to go with a much happier approach on the subject. And Tyler even says this exact thing in the song! "Listen, I know this one's a contradiction because of how happy it sounds. But the lyrics aren't so down". And even the semi-depressing ones can really make a positive impact on you and leave you with great, and deep meanings and truths. Kitchen Sink describes how everyone is dealing with their own demons and how everyone says they know what you're going through, but he knows that he doesn't and that they don't either. It's some seriously great content!
Please go look them up. Some great songs to start with are Car Radio from the album Vessel or Regional At Best, Guns For Hands, also from Vessel and Regional At Best and Stressed Out from their latest album, Blurryface. These albums consist of some of my favorite songs of all time, so I highly reccomend you go look them up. Some more great songs by them are Taxi Cab, Addict With A Pen, Heavydirtysoul, Migraine, Kitchen Sink, Holding On To You, Screen and Lovely. These guys produce some of the most original, inspiring, relatable and just all around insanely enjoyable music of all time and they deserve your attention. Thanks for reading.
